Essential information for your Holiday in Egypt
Egypt is a fantastic holiday destination because it has so much to offer every traveller, from the Pyramids, to the Valley of the Kings, to the Sphinx and of course, all the associated history that goes with it. Egypt’s history is so interesting because it is so mysterious, and there is just so much that we don’t know about ancient Egypt, it’s people and its culture. However, as a tourist there are a lot of things that you must know and must have before you begin your Egyptian holiday. So if you want to be prepared for your time in Egypt, here is some advice on what to take on holiday that could prove to be very helpful.
Clothing
Egypt is a very hot country, its summer lasts from May to October, where temperatures reach a maximum of 30°C in the summer, and in the winter, which runs from November to April, the temperatures reach a minimum of 14°C. Loose and lightweight cotton clothing is essential for keeping cool in these temperatures, so leave some room in your suitcase for clothes, as you will be able to buy some very appropriate items of clothing in Egypt. Remember that Egypt is a Muslim country, and it’s very important to dress conservatively during your time there. Sunglasses, sunscreen and bottled water must be carried at all time to prevent sunburn and sunstroke.
Visas
All foreign visitors to Egypt need a valid passport and sometimes a tourist visa, a single-entry visa will last for three months, so check with the Egyptian embassy to see if you will need one before travelling. All tourists also have to register with the Egyptian police within a week of their arrival in the country, but many hotels will take care of this formality for a small fee.
Egypt is a great holiday destination, but make sure that you don’t fall foul of local customs or laws, and if you’re unsure of anything before you travel, check with your travel provider.
